The Ideal Grass Cutting Height for Georgia Lawns

May 1, 2025 4 min read

One of the most common mistakes homeowners make is cutting their grass too short. Proper mowing height is essential for a healthy, vibrant lawn in Georgia.

Bermuda Grass: 1-1.5 inches

Bermuda is the most common warm-season grass in Bartow County. Keep it short for a manicured look, but never remove more than one-third of the blade at once.

Zoysia Grass: 1.5-2 inches

Zoysia is dense and spreads well. Cutting at 1.5-2 inches promotes thick growth while preventing thatch buildup.

Fescue: 2.5-3 inches

Tall Fescue is a cool-season grass that struggles in Georgia summers. Keep it taller to help it retain moisture and shade its root system.
